After losing their starting shortstop of the past season, Trea Turner, the Los Angeles Dodgers have found their solution at the shortstop position by trading for long-time Miami Marlins captain Miguel Rojas.
The Dodgers acquired Rojas in exchange for minor-league shortstop Jacob Amaya.

Rojas comes into Los Angeles not just to fill a big hole at the shortstop position with the loss of Trea Turner, as previously stated but also as a much-needed leader for a ball club that saw one of their long-time leaders head to Boston via free agency in Justin Turner. Thankfully for the Dodgers, they chose the right person, as Rojas is the ultimate professional on and off the field.
Another significant aspect of this trade for LA is that Rojas will have much less pressure just to be himself as he was asked to go above and beyond every single day while with the Marlins, as the team was unable to surround him with a lot of high-quality players. With the Dodgers, Rojas will be playing alongside Hall of Fame caliber players like Freddie Freeman and Mookie Betts, to name a few.
As for the Marlins, it seems as if a trade revolving around Rojas was a possibility for a while now as the team is nowhere near being competitive, and Rojas is almost in his mid-thirties and will have a chance to compete for a World Series after not having that opportunity while in Miami. With that said, the Marlins did sign Johnny Cueto this week, who is almost forty years old, so perhaps the Marlins have no direction and are all over the place as they have been for a while now.
All in all, this trade should greatly benefit the Dodgers, and for the Marlins, it will be a wait-and-see game as the club’s trade history is not great, and Amaya has yet to play an MLB game.
