Theatre about theatre is some of the best theatre for theatre lovers. (Did I say theatre enough times?) Though both Indecent and its source material may not be overly recognizable to audiences, it is one of those shows that will stay with you long after the cast takes their final bows.

Based on a true story, Sholem Asch (Max Gordon Moore) wrote a Yiddish play called Got fun Nekomeh (which was later translated into English as God of Vengeance). The story is about a romance between a prostitute (Katrina Lenk) and the daughter (Adina Verson) of the brothel’s owner. Upon its premiere on Broadway, the entire cast of the show is arrested due to the obscenity portrayed within the show.

Running on themes of anti-Semitism and homophobia, this play is very important because of the way it looks back on history and still urges us to move forward in the future. Filmed live on Broadway, the show can be watched with the original cast on BroadwayHD.
