2003: Britney, Madonna and Christina Shock Fans with a Now-Iconic Kiss
Well it seems the only one who can top Britney Spears in iconic moments is…Britney. She and Christina Aguilera played blushing brides alongside Madonna in a mashup of “Like a Virgin” and “Hollywood.”
Midway through the performance, Madonna brushed Spears’ hair away and gave her a steamy kiss that would have broken the internet if it were today. Right after, Madonna also planted a kiss on Aguilera but that was basically missed on television due to the camera being focused on a less-than-pleased Justin Timberlake, who had recently become Spears’ ex.
“It was weird,” Aguilera later reflected on SiriusXM with Andy Cohen. “And you know why they cut away for it? They cut away to get Justin’s reaction. … They were exes, but still it was a cheap shot. … I definitely saw the newspaper the next day, and it was like ‘Oh, well, I guess I got left out of that one.’”
