Angels in America

This is a long one, but likely one of the best plays you will ever watch. Split into two parts entitled Millennium Approaches and Perestroika, Tony Kushner’s Angels in America takes place in New York City from 1985 to 1990 during the AIDS epidemic. The most recent revival ran on Broadway in 2018.

After finding out that his boyfriend Prior Walter (Andrew Garfield) has AIDS, Louis Ironson (James McArdle) decides he cannot deal with the pressure and leaves. He ends up in a sexual relationship with married man Joseph Pitt (Lee Pace) whose wife Harper (Denise Gough) is having mental issues. Joseph also works for public figure Roy Cohn (Nathan Lane) who is battling the disease in private.

Angels in America is filled with grief and regrets, but also has a fantastic humor behind it that will show that even in the darkest times, one can find some happiness.
