Avenue Q

Do not be fooled by the puppets, Avenue Q may look like Sesame Street but is solely for adults.
When Princeton (John Tartaglia) graduates from college, he ends up moving to the cheapest place he could find, Avenue Q. He meets several eccentric figures that live in his apartment, including Rod (Tartaglia) and Nicky (Rick Lyon). Rod is a Republican investment banker who’s in love with Nicky but won’t admit it. Nicky is straight but encourages Rod to come out.
This entire show is hilarious, and the songs are just relevant today as they were when the show was released, including the ever-truthful “Everyone’s a Little Bit Racist” and the dirty-but-will-get-stuck-in-your-head “The Internet is for Porn.” Avenue Q premiered in 2004 and beat out Wicked at the Tonys for Best New Musical. It continued to make statements during its Broadway and Off-Broadway runs, including when Rod got married in 2011 on the first day of legal marriage equality in New York City.
