Frances McDormand literally howls onstage

After giving a short speech, Oscar-winning director Chloé Zhao handed the microphone over to producer and star Frances McDormand.
The actress – who would later win Best Actress – urged viewers to go see all of the nominated movies on the big screen as soon as possible.
But then, she did the unexpected, which is not a surprise seeing as her acceptance speeches are normally quirky. McDormand dedicated the film’s win to “our wolf” and then loudly and full of enthusiasm howled just like a wolf before walking offstage.
While it seemed like a strange moment, further review seems like it was a tribute to Nomadland sound mixer Michael Wolf Snyder. Earlier in March, Snyder committed suicide at the age of 35 after suffering from depression for many years.
If his spirit was in the room and heard the tribute, we hope it would have put a smile on his face.
