Despite being an executive producer on Minari, Brad Pitt never met Best Supporting Actress winner Youn Yuh-jung who played the grandma Soon-ja until he presented her with the award.
“Mr. Brad Pitt finally,” she said in shock. “Nice to meet you. Where were you while we were filming?”
The line got major laughs from the audience, including Pitt. Youn’s speech just got better from there.
She first forgave everyone for always mispronouncing her name and then, while in a state of shock, she told the audience she needed to pull herself together. Another great family moment of the night, Youn thanked her two sons for making her go out and work.
Holding up her Oscar, the first Korean Actor to win an Academy Award said, “This is the result because mommy works so hard.”
