1965: Julie Andrews proves she is practically perfect in every way

For her starring role in Disney’s Mary Poppins, Julie Andrews took home the Best Actress award in 1965 and was clearly shocked by her win. She would be nominated twice more throughout her career in 1966 for The Sound of Music and in 1983 for Victor/Victoria, but this is her only win.

“I know you Americans are famous for your hospitality,” she said while accepting. “But this is really ridiculous.”

If only she knew then how long her performance as Mary Poppins would live on in our hearts.
