Evita

Madonna sang, “You Must Love Me” in the film version of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s musical Evita. And we did love her as the First Lady of Argentina Eva Perón despite whatever original stage actress Patti LuPone says.

The film is basically sung through with little dialogue, but it shows the rise of Perón as she marries Juan Perón (Jonathan Pryce). Antonio Banderas played Ché and takes on different roles throughout the story to move it along until her death at the age of 33 from cancer. Madonna still performs songs from the movie today, including the iconic “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina” at the Miami shows of her Rebel Heart Tour in 2016.
