The Hunchback of Notre Dame
Premiered: June 21, 1996
One of the darkest Disney films of all-time, looking back at The Hunchback of Notre Dame, it may have been better suited for adults. So, if you have not watched it in a long time, we highly recommend it.
Born a deformed child, Quasimodo (Tom Hulce) is relegated to work in the bell tower of Notre Dame Cathedral. His master, Judge Claude Frollo (Tony Jay), has brought in Captain Phoebus (Kevin Kline) to help round up and dispose of the gypsies in Paris, including the beautiful and outspoken Esmeralda (Demi Moore).
The animation is amongst the most stunning of all Disney films with music by Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz that goes harder than anyone would expect. And despite themes of lust, genocide and sin, the film still earned a G rating. It gets lost among the classic Disney films of the 90s but trust us and give it another look.
