Fargo
Premiered: March 8, 1996
You always know you’re in for a zany comedy with a Coen Brothers film and Fargo is no different. This year’s Best Actress Oscar-winner Frances McDormand won her first Oscar for this film playing pregnant Minnesota Police Chief Marge Gunderson who is investigating roadside homicides after Jerry Lundegaard (William H. Macy) hires to hitmen (Steve Buscemi & Peter Stormare) to kidnap his wife (Kristin Rudrüd) to extort money from his wealthy father-in-law Wade Gustafson (Harve Presnell).
The movie is equal parts comedy and crime and will have you laughing hard as you cringe at the murders. Critics and audiences loved it, which led to it being nominated for seven Oscars, including Best Picture. Standing the test of time, Fargo has been adapted into a hit anthology television series on FX that has run for four seasons and starred Martin Freeman, Kirsten Dunst, Ewan McGregor and Chris Rock.
