James and the Giant Peach
Released: April 12, 1996
From the same team that created The Nightmare Before Christmas, director Henry Selick and producer Tim Burton rejoined forces to bring Roald Dahl’s classic James and the Giant Peach to life. This is another one that may have seemed creepy as a child but is definitely worth a second look.
Combining stop-action animation and live-action, James Henry Trotter (Paul Terry) is an orphan living with his wicked Aunts Sponge and Spiker (Miriam Margolyes and Joanna Lumley) when he befriends anthropomorphic bugs on a journey to New York City. The bugs feature a voice cast including Richard Dreyfuss, Susan Sarandon and David Thewlis.
