Independence Day
Premiered: July 3, 1996
Premiering the day before actual Independence Day, this film went on to become not just the highest-grossing film of 1996 but also held the number two spot on the highest-grossing films of all-time for a while (it sat behind Jurassic Park in the top spot).
Independence Day shows Earth getting attacked by extra-terrestrial species. Among those that work together to fight the alien force destroying major cities of the world are President Thomas J. Whitmore (Bill Pullman), Marine pilot Captain Steven Hiller (Will Smith) and satellite engineer David Levinson (Jeff Goldblum).
A sequel to this film came out in 2016 with Goldblum and Pull returning in their roles and new stars Liam Hemsworth and Maika Monroe. However, this did not achieve the same success grossing less than half of the original film.
